Cleaning Microwaves the Housewife Way
/Cleaning Supplies Needed:
1 lemon
Microwave-safe bowl or cup
Water
Cleaning cloth or sponge
Step-by-Step Guide:
Prepare the Lemon: Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a microwave-safe bowl or cup. You can also drop the lemon halves into the bowl.
Add Water: Fill the bowl or cup with water. You don't need a precise measurement, but enough to create steam.
Microwave: Place the bowl or cup with lemon juice and water mixture in the microwave.
Microwave on High: Set the microwave to high power and heat the lemon-water mixture for about 3-5 minutes, or until you see steam building up inside the microwave.
Let it Sit: After microwaving, keep the door closed for a few minutes to allow the steam to continue softening the stains and grease inside the microwave.
Carefully Remove the Bowl: Use oven mitts or a kitchen towel to protect your hands from the hot bowl or cup. Take it out of the microwave.
Wipe Down: Carefully remove the turntable and any other removable parts. Wipe down the interior of the microwave with a clean cloth or sponge dampened with warm water. The steam from the lemon-water mixture should have loosened the grime, making it easier to wipe away.
Clean Removable Parts: Wash the turntable and other removable parts in the sink with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry them thoroughly before placing them back in the microwave.
Finish Up: If there are any stubborn stains remaining, you can scrub them gently with the lemon rind or use a mixture of baking soda and water to create a paste for more stubborn spots.
Final Wipe: After cleaning, give the interior of the microwave a final wipe with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue or lemon scent.
Your microwave should now be clean and fresh, thanks to the natural cleaning power of lemon!
